FAQ's

How should I paint my nursery?

Most paints and varnishes currently available from DIY outlets are suitable for painting a child’s bedroom.

For ease of cleaning, the walls of a nursery may be painted using a silk or satin finish as opposed to a matt finish.

Paints available to consumers today have been in use for many years and any short-term health effects are prevented by providing adequate ventilation during application and drying (see " What precautions do I need to take when applying paints and varnishes?".) VOCs (see "What are VOCs?".) emitted during painting diminish quickly after application and keeping windows and doors open for as long as possible is a sensible precaution to ensure any residual VOCs remain at low levels.

Paints should be used under the ventilation conditions stated on the label.
