How can I achieve special effects?

There is a huge variety of special effects that can be achieved, including colourwash, rag rolling, woodwash, wood, marble or metallic effect. Additionally, many manufacturers sell kits for bronzing, pewter, crackle glaze and scumble effects. Manufacturers now provide their own leaflets on how to achieve these effects using their own products and these are available at most large DIY stores.
